Classic Spider-Man by RHIX72 Classic Spider-Man by RHIX72
Here's a quick Spider-man pin-up I digitally colored in PS-CS5.  Traditional pencils (H lead on bristol 9x12...if anyone wants the original pencils let me know and I'll post them).

Also wanted to say this was the first image I've colored since taking the "Art of Coloring Comics" course on Udemy by :iconkmichaelrussell: kmichaelrussell  .  His course was a great learning experience for me.  He teaches an extremely well-organized approach to coloring comics in Photoshop while also providing some great time-saving actions and helpful toolsets. The course covers alot so check out his DA page for details.

Admittedly this coloring job was a bit rushed as I didn't carefully flat the image but I think the end result gets the point across of the "cut & grad" style.  Having said all that this image took me less than 30 minutes to color using the skills and tools I got from the course.  If you get a chance check it out...I think you'll be very pleased.

I really like how tight you kept his body and muscle structure in this. To me, this is how he should look. I love all the dramatic poses of todays styles but many guys round him out to much. Makes him seem soft to me. Should be a super tight swimmers build.
Id love to see more of this style.
keep up the great work and ill be watching and obviously sticking my nose in from time to time. lol

I'm glad you notice this...what a great eye you have.  I've always had the, all to common, tendency to "swell" Spider-Man's form too much.  I see this all the time and I'm trying to consciously lean him out while keeping the muscle definition and stretch things just a touch to give a spider-like appearance. David Finch's interpretation of Spider-man seems to have this quality and I really like his form.   I feel I stretched this one a tad too much...it's always a fine balance that I loose control of if I'm not paying full attention.  Over all I'm pretty happy with the feel of this piece.  The highlight cuts in the coloring seem to really add to his form.  I thought about posting the original pencils but haven't yet.

I like the longer leaner form. That is something else i feel others do wrong is they make him seem squat like wolverine at times.
I love finch's work as well. Liked the few pieces turner did of him also.
As you said, it is a very fine line with Spidey to me.
I did like some of the new superior Spiderman stuff. Thought that artist did him very well at times.

I love Turner's stuff...he's probably my favorite comic artist even though my work bears no resemblance to his.  Gone too soon...can you imagine what he'd have accomplished given 10-20 more years?    Are you referring to Stegman?  His stuff is great...I liked his Scarlet Spider work too.  Can't wait to see what he does with Inhuman.

Yes, I met Turner several times while doing the Comicons tour when i had my store.
Very sad indeed. He was the nicest of people and I never once seen him without a smile on his face.
Stegmans stuff can be a bit wild at times but it still draws me in with the straight lines on his body styles. I think that works well on spidey.
Could be just because i love all his other art but I think Whilce portacio would do an excellent Spidey with how straight his line work can be.

How you draw muscles is so very comic like. I could never do that.
